Read Across America – Contest

Read Across America is the Education Association annual national campaign to encourage reading for kids of all ages. The campaign will be Monday March 2nd, 2009 the birthday of Dr. Seuss.

From the website
“The National Education Association annually sponsors Read Across America. Now in its twelfth year, the program focuses on motivating children to read, in addition to helping them master basic skills.”

A great way to do some good and market your website can be to hold a contest. As an example, I’m going to go ahead and have my own.

The Contest

Leave a comment, I’ll place all of the comment names in a box and the one I pull out will be the winner of my favorite children’s book

The Penguin That Hated The Cold by Barbara Brenner

This is a fabulous almost always difficult to find children’s book. The illustrations are great, the story is simple and easy to read and as far as children books goes – it’s adventurous and exciting. The penguin that dislikes the cold is named Pablo and he tired of always being cold. So he decides to move from the South Pole to a warmer climate.

The Rules

  • Leave only 1 comment

  • Must love to read

  • Must hate the cold – just kidding

On Monday March 2nd, 2009 I will draw a name -- list and contact the winner.

When you hold a contest make sure to market the contest at websites such as

We read to the kids every night and could always use a new book. My daughter is currently stuck on spookley the square pumpkin. A good book, but come on, you need some fresh books in between readings....

I'm thinking about moving somewhere warmer too, well at least today I'm thinking that. It's suppose to be warm here in Colorado, nice and sunny, but the awful wind is what is making it feel so icy. I'm going to be going out with my younger sis for lunch, but hope she can stay on the road to come and get me. She lives a town away, and the highway she'll have to travel to get to my house, sure gets hit hard by the wind sometimes. You can actually feel it pushing your car. We'd like to read the book too, but maybe on a warmer day, so it won't may us feel so chilly. Good luck to all.

The most profound children's book that has a great moral lesson to be learned is by Dr. Suesess:
THE SNEETCHES!

This book truly teaches a lesson is acceptance of others no matter their differences.

The Star Bellies & the no stars on thars......all learned the were still all sneetches.

This story that teaches we are all one~ all mankind no matter our race, creed or color.
This is my favorite story of all time.
I read online that these books have been donated to kids in many countries in the hopes of teaching tolerance.

I don't know of any other childrens story that could ever compare to this.
